Cold Rolled Products

Advance Steel provides full support for a complete range of cold rolled product data, including purlin profiles, connections, accessories and CAM data. Each leading manufacturer´s products are accessed via their own icon on the cold rolled toolbar.
Cold rolled connections: All Advance Steel cold rolled connection macros are generic and support the complete section range of 14 manufacturers. When members in the model change to another profile shape or to another supplier, the connections update automatically to suit the standard detail of the new profile!
Purlin/rail connections: Single or double purlin/rail connections. Various cleat options - plate, suppliers cleat etc, with optional sleeve, stays, fire wall condition etcNon continuous purlin/rail connection: Where purlin/rail is partially or fully within rafter/column depth. Plate or angle cleat, stay options etc.Purlin hip/valley connections: Single or double purlin connections at hip/valley with various cleat options.
Eaves beam connections: Single or double eaves beam connections. Various cleat options - plate, section, supplier's cleat etc.
Cold rolled Accessories: Accessory macros are available for several suppliers creating anti sag systems for side rails and purlins to include ties/struts, diagonal ties, apex ties, eaves ties, etc.
CAM files/orders: Transferring CAM data electronically is now widely accepted as the fastest and most efficient method of submitting details and orders. Fabricators recognise the benefit of labour and material savings, greater accuracy, shorter lead times and elimination of errors.Advance Steel can create complete manufacturing CAM data from steelwork models, eliminating the need for drawings. Ordering this way also speeds up the delivery time and in some cases a discount is offered by the cold rolled supplier. The CAM process includes rigorous error checking to inform the user of any modelling errors or non-standard details that may incur additional costs.

Building Structures

Advance Steel´s grid tools and object oriented functionality provide powerful 3D modelling tools to quickly create the building geometry and connections. All elements within the building model i.e. beams, columns, plates, bolts, etc. are intelligent objects. Easy to use frame generators speed up the creation of most typical frame types.
Beams: Advance Steel 6.1 provides enhanced options for creating compound beams including: easier editing; a library for users to store their own sections for future reuse; as well as support for compound beams in many joint macros.

Curved members: Advance Steel 6.1 is the latest release of CADS' 3D steelwork modelling software, and effectively addresses curved beams and circular structures. Beams can be created from lines and polylines (including 2D, 3D straight and curved). Advance Steel can model and detail curved members of any profile. Plates can be created in any shape and thickness, using the rectangular or polygon plate tools.

Folded and Curved Plates: Advance Steel 6.1 also provides for customised 3D folded and curved plates, which can be both modelled and developed into 2D templates for fabrication.
Connection Detailing: Advance Steel provides a range of powerful parametric macros for modelling all commonly used joint types. Any unusual connection types can be detailed interactively by assembling the individual components and even saved to a library of "User Joints".
New tools in Advance Steel 6.1 include: a copy function for both macro and interactive joints which automatically detects corresponding parts to save time. The choice of joints available to users is extended with the introduction of bent plate joints for connecting a secondary beam to a main beam; corner base plate joints for columns; and joints for working with curved beams, including single and double-sided end plates, fin plates, angle cleats and bent plates. Many existing joints, including stair and handrail macros, have new enhanced functionality and additional options. Users can also save and reuse interactive joints via the new `User Joint´ templates.

Stairs and Ladders

If you find other 3D steelwork packages are too tailored for mainstream Structural Steelwork and do not suit your needs, look no further than Advance Steel.
Advance Steel is the only 3D steelwork modelling system flexible enough to be productive on secondary structural elements such as stairs, ladders and platforms. Because Advance Steel works in AutoCAD it literally can model and detail anything and users can easily create new parts, such as stair treads, using AutoCAD blocks. Once integrated into Advance Steel they behave in the same way as the native objects.
All kinds of 3D assemblies, including hand-railing and balustrades, can be modelled with ease and single part drawings produced for each component.
All parts including any custom objects can be numbered automatically, clash checked and listed. Complete lists of materials, CNC and CAM files can be extracted from completed models, automatically saving time and eliminating any errors.

Structural Design

Structural Engineering design is now a computer based activity performed by professionals who require software applications they can use and trust.
CADS develop and support a range of software products to suit the full range of design requirements; from designing a simple lintel with our 'calc-pad' software SMART Engineer through to dynamic analysis of large complex mixed RC & Steelwork structures modelled with our SMART Modeller using finite elements.
CADS software provides comprehensive support for Plastic, P-Delta (incl. "Lambda crit"), non-linear and dynamic analysis for use where appropriate.
Some specialised products such as our SMART Portal automatically perform plastic design.
BS5950-1:2000 steelwork design & checking for beams, columns, composite beams & connections is provided. Steel members can be designed in groups so that a single section is allocated based upon the critical member within that group.
Completed designs may be detailed automatically in AutoCAD via links to CADS SW (2D), Advance Steel (3D) or via DXF to plain AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT.
CADS provides powerful BS8110 reinforced concrete design modules to produce practical bar arrangements in beams, columns, slabs, bases & pile caps.
Completed designs can be detailed & scheduled in seconds via a link to CADS RC detailing software or in basic AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT via DXF.

Steel Fabrication

Many fabricators now utilize modern drills, saws and plate cutting machinery that can be programmed automatically from CNC (Computer Numerical Control) data.
Indeed even some of those that don't have started to use CNC date to order pre-cut material from their stockholders.
Although CNC data can be keyed in manually or derived from other sources the most common and effective method is to extract it from a 3D CAD model.
Our Advance Steel 3D detailing software from Graitec, for AutoCAD, can be configured to write CNC files in the universal DSTV format supported by all popular machine manufacturers, including Kaltenbach and Peddinghaus. CNC files can be communicated directly to the machine console via a local area network, or even across the
Alternatively they can be loaded into CIM software modules for the fabrication of plates and beams to first pre-optimise the manufacturing process, including automatic nesting and post-processing!
